Critical approaches to vulnerability, diversity and inclusion, attached to the major field of Social Sciences, have been interpreting them as a socio-political construction and not only as moral categories. Children, elderly people, women, disabled persons, migrants, black people, LGBTQIA+ and other minority groups have been commonly associated to vulnerable groups. The so-called human rights-democracy nexus has instigated the emergence of new international patterns and installed constraints also to private actors considering their responsiveness to these sources of vulnerability, aiming at the development of policies promoting diversity and inclusion of these groups. In this sense, the course is structured in order to both expose and explore how a culture of business has been changing as a response to the introduction and diffusion of thicker notions of vulnerability, diversity and inclusion

To map international instruments and patterns regarding recognition of specific vulnerable groups, such as: children, elderly people, women, disabled persons, migrants, black people, LGBTQIA+ and other minority groups;2. To reconstitute a genealogy through which private actors have been internationally challenged to respond to a socio-political reality of diversity;
3. To expose and explore how a business culture has been changing as a response to the introduction and diffusion of thicker notions of vulnerability, diversity and inclusion;
4. To identify cases and policies in which thicker notions of diversity and inclusion are clearly established;

Unit 1 (4 classes)
Mapping ways through which vulnerability, inclusion and diversity has been politicized and how does it produce new international demands towards various actors, including private ones, in terms of human rights;
Unit 2 (4 classes)
Identifying vulnerable groups and their correlated demands in terms of inclusion, diversity and empowerment and how they mobilize human rights language;
Unit 3 (5 classes)
Identifying and problematizing ways through which a business culture has been changing as a response to the introduction and diffusion of thicker notions of vulnerability, diversity and inclusion and also learn through concrete cases and policies that could evidentiate this.
